The classification of Ex Certification can be made from the following perspectives:
1. Classification by Explosion-Proof Type
(1) Intrinsically safe type: Prevents explosions by limiting the electrical energy in the circuit.
(2) Flameproof type: Confines potential hazards inside the equipment and prevents the spread of hazards through a robust enclosure.
(3) Encapsulated type: Encapsulates electrical components in insulating materials such as resin to prevent sparks or electric arcs from igniting an explosion.
(4) Increased safety type: Additional protective measures are applied to equipment that does not generate electric arcs, sparks or high temperatures under normal operating conditions, so as to enhance its safety level.
(5) Pressurized type: Clean air or inert gas is introduced into the equipment enclosure to maintain a minimum positive pressure inside it, which prevents external explosive and flammable substances from entering the equipment. This artificially creates a safe internal environment to achieve the explosion-proof protection of the equipment.
2. Classification by Application Scenario
(1) Gas Ex Certification: Applicable to environments where explosive and flammable gases or vapors are present.
(2) Dust Ex Certification: Applicable to environments where explosive and flammable dust is present.
(3) Mining Ex Certification: Applicable to the explosion-proof certification of equipment used in underground environments with gas and other flammable substances such as coal mines.
3. Classification by Applicable Region
(1) Domestic Ex Certification: Applicable to the explosion-proof certification of equipment for the Chinese market. Currently, based on different product categories and application scenarioses, it is divided into the China Ex Certificate, Explosion-Proof CCC Certification and MA Certification.
(2) ATEX Certification: Applicable to the explosion-proof certification of equipment for the European market. ATEX is the abbreviation for the EU Directive on potentially explosive atmospheres, and it is a mandatory certification requirement.
(3) IECEx Certification: The explosion-proof product certification system of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), applicable to the global market, and it is a voluntary certification system.
